Every community on Reddit is different, and the culture of each community is shaped by the community rules that moderators help define and enforce. Some communities have strict rules around how you should format a post, others prefer that the discussion stay focused on the community’s topic and restrict off-topic posts. In addition to the rules outlined by communities themselves, all redditors and communities also operate by a shared set of rules that are platform-wide.

Behavior that isn’t allowed on Reddit includes:
Harassment
Harassing, bullying, threatening, intimidating, or abusing someone with the intent to create a hostile environment or discourage them from participating on Reddit.
Threatening violence
Encouraging, glorifying, inciting, or calling for violence or physical harm against people, places, or animals.
Hate
Vilifying, humiliating, harassing, promoting identity based attacks against, promoting hatred against, or threatening violence against marginalized or vulnerable groups.
Sharing personal information
Sharing or threatening to share private, personal, or confidential information about someone.
Involuntary pornography
Sharing, threatening to share, or soliciting intimate or sexually-explicit media of someone without their consent.
Sexual or suggestive content involving minors
Soliciting, sharing, or encouraging the sharing of sexual or suggestive content, including fantasy content, involving minors or people who appear to be minors.
Prohibited transactions
Soliciting or facilitating transactions or gifts of illegal or prohibited goods and services. (Reddit is not intended to be used as a marketplace.)
Abusing reporting tools
Using Reddit’s reporting tools to spam, harass, bully, intimidate, abuse, or create a hostile environment.
Impersonation
Impersonating an individual or entity in a misleading or deceptive way. (Includes deepfakes or manipulated content shared to mislead, or falsely attributing content to an individual or entity.)
Copyright violations
Content posted to Reddit that infringes a copyright you own or control. (Note: Only the copyright owner or an authorized representative can submit a report.)
Trademark violations
Content posted to Reddit that infringes a trademark you own or control. (Note: Only the trademark owner or an authorized representative can submit a report.)
NetzDG violations
Behavior or content that’s in violation of the specific sections of the German Criminal Code identified in the Network Enforcement Act (NetzDG).
Spam
Repeated, unwanted, or unsolicited manual or automated actions that negatively affect redditors, communities, and the Reddit platform.
Ban evasion
Using or threatening to use a different Reddit account to continue to participate in a community or Reddit after being banned.
Vote manipulation
Any manual, automatic, or programmatic attempt to cheat or manipulate Reddit’s voting system.
