Group chats aren't part of a community like most things on Reddit, so they aren’t looked after by community moderators. Because of that, enforcing rules and redditiquette in a group chat works differently than it does in communities.
While creating or taking part in a group chat, here are some things to keep in mind:
- Reddit rules still apply in all chats (and everywhere for that matter)
Like you would anywhere on Reddit, while taking part in a group chat, remember the human and look out for your fellow redditors. Even though group chats may only be between a few people, the rules outlined in Reddit’s Content Policy still apply. - Chat creators have extra controls, as the designated group chat host
If you’re the creator of a group chat, you become the host and have the ability to kick people out or remove messages in the chat. However, because your chat isn’t associated with a community, you won’t have access to any of the other moderation tools a community moderator has.
- Everyone in a chat can report messages
Even if you’re not the chat host, you can still look out for yourself and your fellow redditors by reporting any harassment or abuse you see. To report a message, simply press and hold down on the offending message to report it.
