What are Collectible Avatars?
Collectible Avatars are limited-edition avatars from Reddit that provide owners with unique benefits on the Reddit platform. The Creator Collection was made by independent creators in partnership with Reddit. They are powered by non-fungible tokens (NFTs) on the Polygon blockchain, so you’ll need a Vault (your digital wallet on Reddit) to store them.
When you purchase a Collectible Avatar, you become the owner of it. This means you can keep it, trade it, sell it, or use it on Reddit as your avatar.
What is the Collectible Avatar Shop?
The Collectible Avatars Shop is your go-to place to find and purchase Collectible Avatars from independent creators. From the shop you can check out available collectibles, learn more about the creators and artists, and set up your Reddit Vault so you can start your collection.
To visit the shop, navigate to the Style Avatar sections in the side drawer of the apps and in the top right dropdown menu on our website, then click Shop. To get a more detailed rundown, visit the article, About the Collectible Avatars Shop.
What do I actually own? Can I sell my Collectible Avatar as an NFT?
What you actually “own” is a bundle of rights, including the right to display avatar art associated with your Collectible Avatar on and off Reddit, along with the right to access specialty avatar effects when displaying that art as your avatar on Reddit.
These rights are licensed to you by Reddit and licensors, including independent creators. You can use, copy, and display the avatar art for your own personal use, and you can transfer these rights to others by selling or transferring your Collectible Avatar to another individual. However, we don’t support secondary sales of Collectible Avatars on Reddit today.
How do I transfer my Collectible Avatars as an NFT?
We’re currently building transfer functionality into the Reddit apps and website and will be completing this work very soon!
In the meantime, if you’re using our native mobile apps and would like to transfer your Collectible Avatars, you can import your Vault into a third-party crypto wallet using your recovery phrase, which can only be accessed once you’ve secured your Vault by backing it up to Reddit. On mobile, your recovery phrase is accessible in the Your Stuff section of the avatar builder, by tapping the gear icon in the top right corner.
However, if you’re using the Reddit website (new Reddit), you’ll need to wait until we roll out transfer functionality, which is coming soon.
Why don’t I see the background of my Collectible Avatar card in the avatar builder?
For now, background cards do not appear as a separate accessory in the avatar builder. Instead, they’re associated with the accessories that are a part of that particular Collectible Avatar. This means that so long as you have one of the accessories from your Collectible Avatar equipped to your avatar, then your background card will appear on your profile surfaces. This allows you to freely mix-and-match Collectible Avatar gear with other Reddit avatar gear and accessories, and still get a special profile treatment and special comment treatment on posts.
How can I view the details of my Collectible Avatar after I purchase?
In order to see the details of a specific Collectible Avatar that you own, you can access them through the View Details on the Outfit Details section in the avatar builder, or through Details, found both on your profile and in the side drawer of the Reddit mobile apps.
What does the "+" next to the series size mean?
Collectible Avatars are limited-edition avatars that can be purchased or claimed as part of a series. But, Reddit won't know the exact size of the series until the end of the sales or claim window, hence the +. While we expect the size of the series to be very close to or less than the size displayed (e.g., if it says “250+” then the actual series size may be 255 or less) we won’t know until sales are complete.
The series size displayed on the front of your Collectible Avatar card is merely a stylized and rounded estimation of the series size. The exact size can be found on the back of your card after purchase (and sales are complete) or on the blockchain.
